Polarimeters have been an essential scientific tool in chemistry, medicine, and pharmacology for a very long time. Their action is based on the scientific fact that many substances rotate the plane of a polarized light beam. The SR-6 from PolyScience is an excellent manual polarimeter for quality control, teaching and general polarimetry measurement. Rugged and compact, the SR-6 is simple to use, easy to view and accurate to 0.1º of rotation.

Simple to Use
To begin, line up the vernier and scale to the zero position. Place the sample tube with test substance into the measuring field chamber and close the light shield.

Easy To View
The rotated direction of the polarized light beam is immediately apparent. The 3x field lens is brightly illuminated by a monochromatic halogen lamp with built-in orange filter. The 589nm light produced is essential for measurements of substantial rotation and for highly precise measurements.

The two half sections of the circle are easy to see. If the right side is shaded, your sample is dextrorotatory, left side is levorotatory.

Simply rotate the vernier until both halves of the circle ae of equal brightness, then read the scale.

Highly Accurate
Viewing the scale through the magnifier shows the reading in whole degrees, the vernier indicates tenths of degrees. Values of less than a tenth can be interpolated. Measuring tubes for the SR-6 are available in various lengths for a variety of specific tests. All tubes have an expanded bore at one end to minimize interference from air bubbles.
